January 28th - Tagging and Other Sexy Things

Tags tagged as   Akxl: Website  Code: ASP.NET, C#
I added tagging to the website, to make navigation easier. Check out the tag cloud on the right column to browse by tags.

Performance has been pretty lousy on the site, and the tagging makes every page a lot more intensive to generate. Add that to the computation needed to create the tag cloud (sizes are based on the deviation in the occurrence of the tags, fitted to a scaled-up natural log curve; colors indicate categories), and the lag was out of control. The major pages of the website now use full application-level caching of queried datasets from the database, and computation-intensive sections cache full HTML. So everything should run pretty quickly now.
Edit: Then the caching broke the tagging. Now tagging works again.

January 25th - Found this thing...

I've had this picture sitting on my desktop for over a month, and still haven't remembered to post it. Now I did. The picture is a screenshot of what came up when I put Anthony's motherboard driver CD into my computer to make a driver disk for his RAID drives. It meant to say "This is not the computer that my drivers are for. Please browse the files on the CD to find what you are looking for, as I cannot figure it out." At least, that's what I think it meant.

January 22nd - First Snow of the Winter

Tags tagged as   Philly: Home, Weather

Here's the snow outside. It's 1AM, and no one has stepped in it yet.

Here's some pictures of Hamilton Street taken from various stop signs along the way. It looks a lot less craptastic under snow.

January 21st - Hate Mail

Tags tagged as   Akxl: Website
Some hate mail came in from the cult church. Apparently, they don't like being called the cult church. It really makes the cult church mad when I call them the cult church.

Read the hate mail, and my response.

January 21st - Whoo New Website Stuff!

Tags tagged as   Akxl: Website  Life: Friends, Kitties!, Survival  Philly: West
I got bored and procrastinationful and made a new website design that's better than the last one cause it's retro, which is probably cool or something.

Also, new blog stuff (like commenting on entries, everyone try it out), some javascript fixes, and (best of all) better search engine optimization. And the pages all use actual outlining now.

Check the links on the sidebar - I got the new website template validate as XHTML 1.0 and CSS. It also validated as HTML 4.01, but XHTML gives better cross-browser rendering so I went with that.

Check out the spelling on this... It's been this way forever, either they still don't know or they are never going to fix it.

You can eat this onion ring all day, you will never get full!

The ziti would not heat evenly in the oven. No matter what I did, the middle stayed frozen. Remembering that frozen things are solid, and I have a knife and anger, I engineered the ziti into a more even-cooking shape.

Jeff's giant feet scare women. "They are like a sea anemone..."

Cats love things that aren't actually fun. Don't tell them, they have claws.

Hey, look, I commented on this entry. You should too, since I spent so long trying to get the form fields to lay out in the neat square.
